Fertilizers make the most of what your soil has to offer, but it's not as simple as just applying one thing and hoping for the best. Fertilizers are designed to meet the nutrient needs of plants based on their age, type, and growing conditions. So, there's no single-answer answer to how much fertilizer your houseplants need.
When it comes to fertilizing your edible garden, there are three things you need to consider. First and foremost, water your plants well and make sure plants have access to a good supply of water. Secondly, you might want to give your plants some nutrients in the early stages of growth. This is a little easier said than done due to the fact that it can burn young roots and potentially harm them.
Finally, if you're using organic compost as your growing medium, you'll need to add at least six parts nitrogen per one part organic matter. (Note that this can vary depending on your compost!).
